It came as the American actress, 36, and fiancé Prince Harry, 33, visited the charity venture, which provides food and jobs for the homeless.

Manager Mimi Guery said: “I had a chat with Meghan and she told me she wanted to work with us now. She thought it was good fun.

“She said she wanted to work in the kitchen. I told her if she had good tunes she was welcome to join us.

“Meghan then said that she is a DJ, which was a surprise. She’s a woman of many talents. I think she would be into really classy music.”

The engaged couple followed in the footsteps of movie superstars George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio by popping into the sandwich shop.

They toured the kitchens during their half-hour visit and charmed customers, volunteers and staff.

French-born Mimi added: “Meghan and Harry were really interested in what we do and how we care.

“They asked about the menu — and Harry wanted to know if I supported France or Scotland in Sunday’s rugby.

“I answered Scotland — because I was surrounded. Meghan laughed because I didn’t have a choice.”

Social Bite founder stunned to get gushing email from royal couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle asking to visit cafe

Talking to volunteers Liz Cann and Alice Smith and customer George Whyte, Harry said: “Meals are supposed to be an opportunity to bring people together, time to share, time to give and time to have a conversation.”

And the prince told Social Bite founder Josh Littlejohn the charity’s work should be replicated elsewhere.

Harry asked: “When are you bringing this down south?

“When you have proved it really works, it needs to be across the UK as soon as possible.”

Josh said: “If we can make real inroads in Scotland, there’s no reason we can’t pass that on.”

Social Bite worker Sonny Murray, 38, bagged a souvenir of the pair’s visit — Meghan’s coffee cup.

He said: “She left it at the booth and I thought, ‘Waste not want not.’

“I have it for keeps now and I’m not going to clean it. I’m going to put it towards my collection.

“But they were lovely. They sat and spoke away to us about their backgrounds.”

Harry and Meghan were greeted outside the restaurant by hundreds of fans, including sisters Irene Lennon, 66, and Audrey Wilde, 72, who had travelled from Newcastle.

The OAPs serenaded the pair with the Calamity Jane tune ’Tis Harry I’m Planning To Marry.

Audrey said: “He seemed to enjoy our song. We also had roses we wanted to give Harry for Valentine’s Day — but we’ll have to find another prince to give them to.”

Irene added: “We’re going to Windsor in May for the wedding.

“Meghan is beautiful and Harry’s the good-looking one in the family. The boys have so much of their mother in them.”
